Managing Archives

The shell of the Windows operating system will be extended by archives, disks, archiving periods, archived files and folders.
•
Within an archive, files and folders will be grouped by archiving periods. You can switch between years, quarters, months, weeks and days.
•
During cataloging, data about files and folders is stored in a database. Therefore, you don't need access to the archive medium (e.g. inserting the appropriate disk) if you are searching for a file or folder. The program lists the contents of an archive and can display the properties of a single item.

For files and folders in an archive, additional attributes are supported, including archiving date, cataloging date, flags for notes, storing with absolute paths andread-only attributes of the original file.
•
Notes regarding the archiving process can be displayed for each file and folder. If the archive medium isn't read-only, you will be able to change the notes at any time.

If the archive medium isn't read-only, you will be able to delete a file or folder in an archive from theshell.

You can create a link to an archived file or folder (but not to objects within a folder). Links will be collected in a special file. If you specify the name of a file which already exists, a new link will be added to the collection.

There is a wizard included to help create a new archive.

There are two types of archives: local and disk archives. For the latter, disks are managed by the program, too. The program will distinguish between floppy disks, CD/DVDs and others forms (e.g. magneto-optical disks).

Parameters can be specified for each archive, so you will not need to enter them every time you archive afile or folder. Some of them will then be set to default before archiving and can be changed there.

For each archiving process, a folder will be created and all files separately stored therein. No single file,e.g. in ZIP format, will be created.
•
Notes and conversion tables for filenames and attributes will be stored within the archives. While cataloging, the program copies this data into its database, so you don't need to access the archive medium again.
•
You can also catalog disks, which are not created with the program. In doing so, you will have to foregospecial features like notes, archiving date or conversion of filenames and attributes.
